He was predeceased by: his parents, Donald Smith and Gladys Smith (Bunn). He is survived by: his wife Marsha Smith (Perl); his daughter Erica Carpenter (Louie); his brother Bryan L. Smith (Kathleen); his grandson Alfred Donald Carpenter; his sisters-in-law, Shirley Davis, Rita Friedman and Roslyn Oberson; his nephew Todd Smith (Wende); and his nieces, Rebecca Razon (Eric), Beth Dievendorf (Joe) and Samantha Koehler (Erv). He is also survived by several cousins, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the Knesseth Israel Synagogue or Pine Tree Rifle Club.
