He was predeceased by: his parents, Janet Jones and Arthur Leonard Silcox; and his wife Heather Penhale Silcox. He is survived by: his sister Ann L. Silcox; his close friend Cynthia Robinson; his daughters, Heather J. Andelora (Ron), Allison T. Silcox and Laurie E. Clarke (Jon); and his grandchildren, Tristan Clarke, Grace Clarke and Josh Andelora (Diana).
He won the award for "internationally recognized research accomplishments and distinguished contributions to microscopy".
