William J. Hone Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the death of William J. Hone (Irvington, New York), born in Youngstown, Ohio, who passed away on May 1, 2020 at the age of 78. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He is survived by: his wife Marjorie Vaughan Hone; his brother Thomas; his daughters-in-law, Katie and Lilian; his sons, James Curtis and Brian Thomas; and his granddaughters, Lizzie, Lila and Poppy.

Among his most proud professional achievements were obtaining the patents for PCR machines and many of the techniques now being used in COVID-19 testing.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Irvington Presbyterian Church Building Fund or to Hudson Link, a wonderful program of higher education begun at Sing Sing and since expanded to a number of prisons in the state.
