He was predeceased by: his parent John Sr; and his wife Charlotte Swanson (Hoar). He is survived by: his parent Anna Swanson Sr. (Carlson); his children, John III (Josephine) of Interlaken, Christine Swanson of Gloucester and David Swanson (Susan) of Groton; and his grandchildren, Janine Price of Cortland, Benjamin Swanson of Romulus, Matthew Swanson, Kathleen Swanson, Lydia Prysak of Gloucester and Mary Gehrke of Framingham, Mass.. He is also survived by 10 great- grandchildren, and a great-great-granddaughter.
