He was predeceased by: his parents, Luke Garvila and Mary Garvila (Majewski); his wife Margaret Garvila; his brother Luke Garvila, Jr.; and his brother-in-law Andrew Sidoti.

He is survived by: his children, Joseph L. Garvila Jr. and Catherine Quinn (Dennis); his grandchildren, Justin Garvila, Kaelan Quinn, Mackenzie Quinn, Emma Garvila and Madysen Quinn; his sister Mary Sidoti; and his niece Maura Vo.
