Mary Sarnelli Obituary
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Mary Sarnelli of Huguenot, Staten Island, N.Y. who passed away on September 22, 2019 at age 89: {1930-2019}. Mary was a kind and loving soul with a big, generous heart, said her son, Gene. She would always be the first to say come over to my house...I'll cook, or let's go grab a bite out to eat,...my treat !
A testament to her generous ways and trusting and engaging personality. If you met Mary, you loved Mary ! Known for her great home cooking and big, mouth-watering Italian Christmas-Eve gourmet fish dinners she prepared for her loving family for many years. Her specialty,.....stuffed calamari, like no one else could make !
She was the youngest of three children born to Anthony and Jennie Benvenuto in Brownsville, Brooklyn, N.Y. Mary had an older brother, Salvatore, and an older sister, Antoinette (Bubby).Mary was blessed in life to be very close to her two siblings;as they always lived close-by and her mother, Jennie, lived to be 96 years old. If she ever needed her brother, Sal, he could not get there fast enough. He was fiercely independent and had a kind and generous heart. Her sister, Bubby, was also like her best friend their entire lives , as they were only 18 months apart.
She was my favorite aunt, said her nephew, Gene.Growing-up, we were very close;she was my mom's only sister, and I miss her and my uncle each and every day, too. My mom had many good and close friends throughout her lifetime. Sadly, most are deceased now.She also maintained a close-knit friendship from childhood with her dear friend Lee Sgro-Fiore.
They knew each other from 7 years old, and remained best friends their entire lives;that is something truly special and rare in life. Lee passed-away in 2018 at 86 years old. Mary was predeceased by her husband Carlo in 1985, her beloved sister, Antoinette in 2005 and brother, Salvatore in 2006, and her adoring son Steven in 2009.
I shared a very special bond with my mom my entire life.We were truly cut from the same cloth and I was blessed in this life to have her as the absolute best mother anyone could ever ask for. Her son, Gene, said his mom was the most loving, stable, honest, responsible, and kind-hearted person he knew. My mom was my best friend, my hero, and my rock my entire life.
Her loss is devastating to me, and I will deeply miss her loving presence dearly. I shall carry her by my side in spirit each and every day, as she was in life. My mom was my guiding light my entire life;always there for me with strength, support, and guidance.
She was a strong person that always helped me get through the hurdles in life I faced with compassion and love, said her son, Gene. I take comfort in knowing my mother was never in want for anything and never alone a single day in her life under his loving and protective watch.May my dear mother now rest in peace.
