He was predeceased by: his parents, Michael Cavanaugh and Mary Moyles Cavanaugh; and his sisters, Mary Louise Batchelor, Clare Conaboy and Florence Crouse-VanDetta.
He is survived by: his wife Grace Lewis Cavanaugh; his children, Mariann Cavanaugh (Ron Pickett), Doreen McGreevy (William) and Michael Cavanaugh (Jane); his grandchildren, John Hoogeveen (Patti), Peter Hoogeveen, Maggie Fort (Evan), Megan McGreevy, Michael Cavanaugh, Nicole McGreevy and Matt Cavanaugh; his great grandchildren, Charlotte, Cora, Teddy, Henry and Jack; and his sister Jane Skiscim. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, February 5th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home (39 S Main St, Mechanicville, NY 12118). A funeral service was held on Thursday, February 6th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location. The military honors was held on Thursday, February 6th 2025 at the Saratoga National Cemetery (200 Duell Rd, Schuylerville, NY 12871).
