He was predeceased by: his granddaughter Elyssa Compton; and his sister Marie Young. He is survived by: his parents, Sanford S. Horton and Gladys Horton (Morrell); his spouse Rena Horton (Elmore); and his sister Ellen Ullman of Cobleskill. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren.
