He was predeceased by: his parents, Col. Hiram N. Smith and Cora Alice Smith; his son Michael Richard Smith (Cathy) of Horseheads; and his former wives, Edna Emmons and Eleanor A. Smith.
He is survived by: his sister Barbara Johnson of Albuquerque, NM; his fiancée Bonnie Belcher of Horseheads; his children, David Smith (Laura) of Elmhurst, IL, Douglas (Patty) of Charlotte, NC, Stephen Ahrens and Debra Gaboriault of Fairport, NY; his daughter-in-law Aileen Smith of Wauwatosa, WI.; his grandchildren, Sam, Caroline, Patrick, Maureen, Chelsea, Lauren, Bryan, Kristen, Matt, Megan, Nathan, Jessica, Amanda and Anne Marie; and his great grandchildren, Ursa of Nora, AJ, Emma, Luna, Maverick and Jovie.
