He was predeceased by: his parents, Merryl King and Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Gorman Drinkwater. He is survived by: his wife Cilla Shaw Drinkwater; his brothers, Bruce and Jeffrey; his nieces and nephews, Joshua, Zebediah and Shane Drinkwater; and his stepdaughters, Molly, Alice and Claire Grattan.
His unexpected death resulted from complications of Parkinson's Disease.
