He was predeceased by: his wife Loretta Muenkel (Byrnes); and his son-in-law Steven Christy. He is survived by: his children, Theresa Christy, Tom Muenkel (Christine), Mary Muenkel, Ted Muenkel (Helene), Joe Muenkel (Kathy) and Christine Weisz (Carey); his grandchildren, Kerri (Bryce), Kevin, Joseph, Samantha, Eric, Nicholas and Katelin; and his brother Edward Muenkel (Mary). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews; and close friends.
