He was predeceased by: his mother Betty Schmitt (Hillis). He is survived by: his significant other Carol Schmitt (Pindar); his sons, Cody Schmitt (Sarah) and Stephen J. Schmitt (Sarah Rathjen); his grandchildren, Lillian and Owen; and his siblings, Roxanne Jochem (Charles), Gary Schmitt (Lisa) and Larry Schmitt. He is also survived by in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, "adopted family".
