He is survived by: his wife Annette Yates (Gangi); his children, Julie Yates (Ryan Irish) and James Yates; his stepgrandchildren, Christina and Sean; his siblings, David Yates (Pat) and Ginny Stockwin; and his sister-in-law Diane Inguagiato (Jim). He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

“I am so saddened to hear of john's passing . He was a such a good family man , and a good friend to my brother dennis. He was so upset at his death, but know i would like to believe they are in heaven together and catching up with each other. The best part being that john is now longer struggling with his issues. Deepest sympathy to his entire family , but a special note to annette . I am thinking of you at this time and sending my prayers . Rick stenshorn”
