He was predeceased by: his father Percy Joseph Hess. He is survived by: his spouse Lynn M. Hess; his children, Joelle (John), Bouchard, Jennifer (Ray), Karkman, Grampy of Emery and Daniel Bouchard; his mother Mary Mildred Carroll; his sisters, Marilyn Brown and Sandra Jazembak (Davey); and his siblings-in-law, Randy Sullivan (Mary), Cindy Garabedian (Matt) and Kassy Shriver. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jody's name to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
