He was predeceased by: his parents, Frederick and Mildred; his grandsons, John and Joseph; his wife Johanna Bence (Altherr); his sons, John Bence Jr. (Mickey) and Joseph Bence; and his sister Eda Foit (Elizabeth Guarino).
He is survived by: his children, Johanna, Joanne Renzo, Janet Bence and Jim Bence (Sue); and his siblings, Fred Bence, Nora Carroccia, William Bence (Janet), Philip Bence, Mildred Robertson and Bob Bence (Linda). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
