He was predeceased by: his parents, Frederick Poynton and Helen Poynton; and his sister Nancy Poynton. He is survived by: his wife Carolyn Poynton; his children, Melissa Schrader (Matthew) and Gregory Poynton (Michelle); his grandchildren, Benjamin, Kylee, Hunter and Kodiak; and his siblings, Fran Mungovan, Marion Hartl, Richard Poynton, Sr., Jessie Poynton, Frederick Poynton and Mary Cerne. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
