He was predeceased by: his parents, Benedict "Ben" Schell and Helen Yurkon Schell; and his daughter Allison. He is survived by: his wife Lorraine "Lorrie" Wall Schell; his children, Michael B. Schell, Jr. (Kristen), David Schell, Joseph Schell (Ashley) and Alexandra Schell (Corey Tambasco); his grandchildren, Anna, Grace and Logan; his sister Diane Schell-Courtoies (Art Yost); and his siblings-in-law, Christine Chenes (Paul), Elizabeth Mohsinger and John Wall (Mary Ann). He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to The Hagaman Volunteer Fire Department or St. Baldrick's Foundation.
