He was predeceased by: his father John P. Gillis; and his brothers, Donald and Edward Gillis. He is survived by: his wife Jackie Gillis (Donahue); his children, Dawn Schmitt (Rich), Adam Gillis (Tara), Christopher Wernle and Brian Wernle (Tricia); his grandchildren, Dylan Schmitt (Avery), Jonathan Schmitt, Sophia Schmitt, Rowan Gillis, Cass Wernle, Hudson Wernle and Zoe Wernle; his mother Rose Gillis; his siblings, Michael Gillis (Joanne Yahn), Rosemary Koban (Michael) and Thomas Gillis (Jennifer); and his sister-in-law Sherry Gillis. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Saturday, January 18th 2025 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the DiPonzio Funeral Home, Inc. (219 Spencerport Rd, Rochester, NY 14606). A funeral service was held on Saturday, January 18th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the same location.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to a charity of your choice in his memory.
