Peggy (Gray) G. Murrain Obituary
Peggy Murrain (née Gray) was born in 1934 in Little Rock, Arkansas, and died on February 8th, 2024. She moved to NYC in 1945 with her mother and grandmother. She went to Fieldston in Riverdale, NY, and then to Simmons College, where she got her bachelor’s and master’s degrees. She received her Ed.D. at St. John’s University in NY. She taught social studies at PS 49, then became an assistant principal and principal in the Bronx and Long Island. She was an Assistant Superintendent for Personnel Administration of Amityville Schools in Amityville, NY. She also served on the faculty of Queens College and Dowling College as an Adjunct Professor of Education. She retired in 1992. She was on the board of Trustees of St. John’s University, SUNY Old Westbury, and Headstart. She served on the New York State Department of Health Board of Medical Professional Conduct and the New York State Board of Pharmacy. Peggy loved life. She loved to travel and traveled worldwide, was an avid fan of the arts, and was a prodigious reader. She cheered the St. John’s Basketball team, the New York Jets, and the runners of the Millrose Games. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Godfrey, her son Maxwell, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
