He was predeceased by: his father Elmer W. Higgins. He is survived by: his wife Pansy Higgins (Sawyer); his son Kurt Higgins; his brother Raymond Higgins; and his stepchildren, James Cole, Jr. (Betty), Isabelle Anne Young (Wayne), Mary Knight (Wayne) and Sarah Cole. He is also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
