He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Sliwa and Helen Rekar; his siblings, Josephine Romanoski, Loretta Bogdan, Stephanie Osczepinski, Lillian Ratynski and Henry Sliwa; and his brother-in-law Raymond Sczerba.
He is survived by: his wife Joyce Ann; his children, Gerald (Samantha) and Kathleen (Todd); his grandchildren, Trevor (Alison) and Kailey; his sisters, Genevieve Noger and Angeline VanRiper; and his brothers-in-law, Thomas Sczerba (Andrea) and Edward Sczerba (Susan). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Joe's memory to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan County NY, 800 Stony Brook Ct., Newburgh, NY 12550.
