She was predeceased by: her parents, Loren Swears and Katherine Swears (Abare); her son Kevin Gates; her sister Mary Steele (Clifford); and her brother-in-law Wayne Jones.
She is survived by: her husband Ernest Gates; her son Scott Gates (Anne); her grandchildren, Savannah (Joe), Alexandria (Kevin), Wesley and Mason; and her siblings, Lorraine Jones and Almon Swears (Karen). She is also survived by several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
