It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Aleta D. Whitbeck Lyons of Glenmont, New York, born in Ravena, New York, who passed away on September 4, 2021, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

She was predeceased by: her parents, Robert Whitbeck and Phoebe Whitbeck; and her siblings, Robert Whitbeck, Jr., Marilyn Anderson, Jacquelin Bleau and Dorothea Backlund.

She is survived by: her husband William Lyons; her children, Arvid Johnson (Ally), Oren Johnson (Debbie), William Lyons, Jr., Leah Leonard (David), Renee Crimes, Shawn Lyons (Jenn), Dalton Lyons and Shayla Lyons; and her sister Phebe Archebald. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Contributions in memory of Aleta may be made to Aleta Lyons Scholarship Fund, St. Thomas The Apostle Church, 42 Adams Place, Delmar, NY 12054.

“In loving memory of Aleta D. Whitbeck Lyons, I taught at St. Thomas briefly. Aleta was one of the first friendly faces I met, and she let me know right away that she was there to help. I will never forget her joy when working with our students. My favorite memory is of us at a school wide scavenger hunt, enjoying the fresh air and sunshine outside while playing games together and helping students look for clues. She will be missed.
