We are sad to announce that on September 18, 2023, at the age of 94, John Matern of Galway, New York, born in Schenectady, New York passed away. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, William Matern and Pearl Booth Matern; and his siblings, Bill, George, Jane, Betty and Martha.
He is survived by: his wife Carol Matern (Seitz); his siblings, Pearl Albrechtsen and Paul Matern (Kathy); his daughters, Kathryn Fisher (Thomas), Jane McGrath (Edward), Mary Izzo (Bart) and Deborah Matern Graf (Peter); and his grandchildren, Mark Fisher, Amy Paynter, Domenick Izzo, Michelle Swider, Patrick McGrath, John Izzo, Kathrine Graf, Angelina Mezick, Katie McGrath, Kristin Fisher, Daniel Graf, Carol Schmotzer and Shawn McGrath. He is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Contributions in memory of John may be given to the memorial fund of Christ the King Lutheran Church at the above address.
