He was predeceased by: his wife Wanda May Graham; his parents, Dean J Wells and Hazel I Wells; and his sister June Benoit. He is survived by: his children, Dwight Wells (Jean), Judith Allen (Gary), Joanne Flood (Gary), Yancey Wells (Kay), Sarah Crossett (David) and Robin Braud (Bryan); and his sister Helen Willems. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren with 4 on the way, several nieces and nephews among other family and friends.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to the American Legion.
