He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Frank Fonda and Amy Fonda; his wife Estella R. Fonda; his children, Richard Jr. of Johnstown, Sharon Preston (Robert) of Altamont and Timothy (Amy) of Gloversville; his sister Frances Winkler of Fonda; his grandchildren, Melissa Renzi (Michael), Erica Mayne (Eric), Joshua Fonda, Kyle Fonda and Caitlyn Fonda; his great grandchildren, Sophia Renzi, Lucas Mayne and Ryan Mayne; his son Michael James Fonda; and his sister Bessie Ingersoll. He was also cherished by numerous nieces and nephews.
