He was predeceased by: his father Charles Merritt; and his brother Patrick Merritt. He is survived by: his mother Patricia Merritt (McNamara) of Fulton; his siblings, Melissa (John Bricker), Melinda Merritt, Marybeth (Daniel Hammond) and Mark Merritt of Fulton; his godsons, Christopher Acome and Alexander Tarolli; his nieces and nephews, Aaron Acome, Anthony Goodman, Kerry Tarolli of Camillus, NY, Allyson Bricker of Albany, NY, Karli Bricker of Endicott, NY and Kara Bricker of Endicott, NY; and his great-nieces and great-nephews, Kelsey, Brennan, Connor Acome, James, Tyler Tarolli, Brianne, Emily and Olivia Acome. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles and cousins.
