He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Sr. Nelson and Jean Smith Nelson; and his son Johnny Nelson. He is survived by: his wife Jennifer Boothe; his children, Sheila Thurman (Todd), Barbara Williams (Robin) of Robert, Morgyn Nelson (Kristian Vargas), Theron Nelson (Sam), Jayden Nelson (Melanie), Courtney Walker (Kether), Patrick Walker (Julia), Nicole Walker and Madyson Walker; his grandchildren, Angela, Ashley, Aidan, Adam, Zack, Jimi, Ethan, Elyssa, Kaitlyn, Kayley, Memphis, Lorelei, Wesley, Lilly, Carter, Izzy, Miles and Rose; and his sisters, Alta Johnson, Louise Nicholson, Sonja Berry, Glenda Ferraro (Joshua) and Wendy Johnson-Ward. He is also survived by 10 great grandchildren.
