He was predeceased by: his parents, Bernard Whelly and Mae Stager Whelly; his grandson Christopher Tavino Thomas (Samantha); his brother-in-law Joseph Pacino; his siblings, Bernard Whelly, Rita Welke, Doris and Shirley Whelly; and his siblings-in-law, Henry Colistra, Marie Pacino, Joseph Villa and Katherine Villa.
He is survived by: his wife Virginia Colistra Whelly; his children, David Whelly (Kim) of Red Hook, NY, Kathleen Tucker (Geoffrey) of Palm City, FL, Mary Tavino (Louis) of Brewster, NY and Nancy Temple (Jeffrey) of Rutland, VT.; his grandchildren, Matthew Tucker, Daniel Tavino (Candace), Colin Temple (Colleen), Elizabeth Corridan (John), Ariana, Olivia and Nicholas Whelly; his great grandchildren, Lucas, Michaela, Codie, Thomas Tavino, Maggie, Louie, Natalie Temple, Henry and Lena Corridan; and his sister-in-law Jean Colistra Many. He is also survived by Many nieces, nephews and cousins.
