He was predeceased by: his brother Thomas McAvoy; and his parents, William Howard McAvoy and Norma Jean McAvoy (Short). He is survived by: his wife Patricia (Lanuti); his children, Matthew McAvoy and Kelly Hassan (McAvoy); his children-in-law, Marci McAvoy and Mohamed Hassan; his grandsons, William F. McAvoy and Oliver Hassan; his siblings, Gary McAvoy (Debra) and Cecilia Gill (Tom); and his siblings-in-law, Catherine McAvoy, Carl and Mike Lanuti.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to SUNY ESF College Foundation and Francis House in Syracuse.
