He was predeceased by: his parents, John Cornell and Margaret Cornell; his wife Elizabeth (Pericola); and his siblings, Joan Winzler and Walter Cornell.

He is survived by: his children, Anne Culhane (Steven), Kristin Cornell (Billy Paradise), John S. Cornell III (Lauren Caudel) and Robert Cornell; his sister-in-law Beverly Brown (Philip); his grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Davis, Shannon Culhane, Curtis, Brittany Mills (Steven) and Autumn Cornell; and his great grandchildren, Charlie Cornell, Everly Mills and Eva Cornell. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
