She is survived by: her husband Barry Birkel; her children, Christopher Birkel (Carmela) and Erin Gericitano (Nicholas); her siblings, Timothy Gaughan (Deborah) and Eileen Counihan (Daniel); and her grandchildren, Sidney and Cole. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and beloved friends.

In lieu of flowers the family of Kathleen would like you to make a donation to the Lupus foundation.
