He was predeceased by: his parents, Melvin Benson and Hazel Ross Benson; his wife Margaret E. Benson; his son Gary A. Benson; and his sisters, Marian Fitzella, Barbara Utavich, Rheta Tilburg, Dory Nelson and Leonna Davis.
He is survived by: his son Dr. Steven Benson (Nancy) of Jamestown; his sister-in-law Shirley Tracy; his grandchildren, Brenton Benson (Keiko Kibune), Kristin Whittington (John), Devon Mahaney (Lieutenant Colonel John), Kristal Benson and Tammy Piazza; and his great grandchildren, Kaito, Kohei Benson, Grace, William Whittington, Vivian and Evelyn Mahaney.
