He was loved and cherished by many people including: his son Richard; his parents, Julius and Hilda; his wife Claire; his grandson Cyrus; his children, Mark (Patricia), Christopher (Lisa), Mathew (Alison) and Mary Jo Melia (Frank); his daughter-in-law Roxanne Steubing; and his grandchildren, Kevin (Petra), Katie (Rob), Jessica, Matthew (Alicia), Rebecca (David), Michael (Emily), Amanda (Marc), Ryan (Kaitlyn), Rachael, Julie (Sean), Jackie (Nate), Richie (Sarah) and Julius. He was also cherished by aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Later in life when Claire developed Alzheimer's Disease, Dick tended to her every need and nursed her at home for as long as he was physically able.
