He was predeceased by: his parents, Lyle E. Smith and Mabelle Garner Smith; his wife Arlene Ladue; his children, Ronald and Kathleen; his daughter-in-law Nancy; and his stepgrandson Ross Parsons Jr..
He is survived by: his son Peter Smith (Debra Hayden); his grandchildren, Travis Smith (Kristyn), Kevin Hayden and Shannon Bullock (Thomas); his great grandchild Morgan Smith; his son-in-law Ross Parsons; and his stepgrandchildren, Kevin Parsons (Cheryl) and Angela.
