He is survived by: his wife Joan (Shoemaker); his siblings, Joan Bailey, Iona Weaver and Onalee Hartman; his daughters, Rayna King (Gene) and Deidra Leonard-Barton (Michael); his stepson Joseph Smith (Soy); and his grandchildren, Junelle, Bryanna King, Zachary, Jesse Ruland (Ariana), Christy Smith-Nichols (Michael), A. J. Smith, Michael and Matthew Smith. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
