He was predeceased by: his parents, R. Scott Howland and Louisa B. Howland; his parents-in-law, A. Adolf and Evelyn Peterson; and his pet Lucy.
He is survived by: his wife Karin Peterson Howland; his children, R. Scott Howland II (Jennifer Buckner Howland), Ella of Steamboat Springs, Colorado and Peter G. Howland (Peggy Moore Howland); his grandchildren, Tim, Ben and Kip of Carlisle, Pennsylvania; his cousins, Alice, Howy and Ross Holmes; and his brothers-in-law, John A. Peterson and Eric A. Peterson.
