He was predeceased by: his parents, William Stanton and Lucelia Stanton (Galpin); his son Joseph Stanton Jr.; his siblings, William, James, Leroy Stanton and Winifred Perry; and his son-in-law Douglas Learned.
He is survived by: his wife Janet Stanton (Squires) of Elmira; his children, David Stanton (Wendy) of Pittsburgh, PA, Jan Stanton (Kimberly) of Elmira, Phillip Stanton (Alexandra) of Ewing, NJ, Charlene Learned of Elmira and Becky Janowski (Alvin) of Catlin, NY; his brothers, John Stanton (Christine) of Horseheads and Charles Stanton (June) of Big Flats; and his daughter-in-law AnnaJo Stanton of Maricopa, AZ. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the American Heart Association.
