It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Gladys M. Rice (Elmira, New York), who passed away on March 2, 2023, at the age of 83, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, George Mathews and Elizabeth Mathews (Kennedy); her husband Robert Rice; her children, Robert Rice II and Minnie Lane; her adoptive parents, Frederick Mathews and Florence Mathews; her stepmother Nellie Mathews; and her siblings, Nellie Mathews, Georganna Pond, James, George Jr., Elmer, William, Charles, Fred and Robert Mathews.
She is survived by: her children, Jean Shelley and Thomas Rice Sr.; and her siblings, Alice Rankin, Leona Rifenburg, Richard, Roger and Walter Mathews. She is also survived by several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
