He was predeceased by: his parents, Donald L. Smith and Tillie Smith (Grabowski); his brother Frank Smith; and his sisters-in-law, Patricia Parsons, Jeannie Brilliard and Betty Chamberlan.

He is survived by: his wife Elaine D. Smith of Elmira; his sons, Andy Smith (Heather) of Christiansburg, VA and Lee Smith (Michelle) of Elmira, NY; his brother Mike Smith of Elmira; his granddaughters, Theresa Smith, Megan Smith and Erica Smith; his great grandchildren, Betty Visger and Lilliana Dallas; and his siblings-in-law, Jo Ann O'Dell, Glenn Doty (Karen McLean) of Erin, NY and Susan. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
