He was predeceased by: his parents, Earl Emmett Ayers and Fraces Idella Bohart Ayers; his children, Marjorie Janette Ayers, James, Thomas, David, Paul and William Eugene Ayers Sr.; and his sisters, Elizabeth Hoover, Naomi Ayers, Mary Ayers and Pauline Sutryk.

He is survived by: his wife Marjorie Burdick Ayers; his son Daniel Alfred Ayers of Kenton, TN; his daughter-in-law Joan Sandra Ayers Sr. (William Eugene) of Mt. Gilead, NC; and his close friend Michael Kingsbury. He is also survived by several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of caring friends.
