He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Miner Nightengale and Clara Nightengale; his children, Michael (Donna), Scott (Kim), Heidi Nightengale, Holly Skrobinski (David) and Heather Doyle (Michael); his grandchildren, Amy, Robert (Kara), Scott (Sheena), Megan (John), Marin and Jack; his great grandchildren, Madeleine, Elliot and Rhea; his sister Jean Miller of Connecticut; his wife Carolyn; and his sons, Loris and Benjamin. He was also cherished by several nieces and nephews.
