He was predeceased by: his parent Frederick Backenstross; his wife Irene O'Brien Backenstross; and his brother Frederick Backenstross. He is survived by: his parent Julia Backenstross; his children, Richard Backenstross of Bridgeport, Kurt Backenstross (Tracie) of Fulton, Dianne Harrington (Mark) of Liverpool and Erik Backenstross (Tory) of Bridgeport; his grandchildren, Colin Harrington, Devin Harrington, Quinn Backenstross and Rowan Backenstross; and his sisters, Shirley Ward (Philip) and Joyce Allen (Dexter).
