He was predeceased by: his parents, Edwin Carlton and Beatrice Pringle Spear. He is survived by: his wife Susan Heard Spear; his sons, Peter of Hudson and Jeffrey of Concord; his grandchildren, Will, Alexandra and Iris; his sisters, Norma Frevert and Margaret Hanlon; his friends, Bob and Larry; his nieces, Lynn Frevert Wigley, Brenda Frevert James, Sharon Frevert Skeen, Linda Hanlon Watson and Karen Hanlon Fleming; and his nephew Jim Hanlon.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Veteran's Outreach Center, 447 South Avenue, Rochester, Ny 14620 or Lollypop Farm, 99 Victor Road, Fairport, NY 14450.

“I just want to express my sympathy for Dick's passing. In the short time I had to know him he impressed upon me he was an old soul .A gentleman observing and quiet but always ready to pull the trigger with wisdom or quick wit. I had a great deal of respect for the pilot of a Huey and the pictures and stories Dick shared.I was blessed by Sue who let me help at their home these last few months.It was there I witnessed a great love and twinkle of two completely devoted to each other .”
