Zachary Gavin Michael Simons, 16, of Dolgeville, New York passed away unexpectedly, early Monday morning, December 19, 2022 at his home.
He was born on May 25, 2006 in Gloversville, New York and was the son of Michael Simons and Crystal (Watson) Squires. Zachary was currently an 11 th grader enrolled in homeschooling.
Zachary LOVED basketball and was an avid L.A. Lakers fan. He also enjoyed expressing his artistic and creative side through painting, drawing and graffiti art. As any teenager, he loved gaming, especially NBA2K and playing pool with his sister, Abby and friends. He also had a love for animals, especially his fur family at home, Phoenix, Juno, Daisy, Sweet Pea & Hobbes.
Zachary was deeply loved by his parents, sisters, family and friends. His passing leaves a void that cannot be filled and as the days pass, only remember the fondest memories of Zachary. His fun and caring personality, and big smile, that touched all who knew him.
He is survived by his parents, Michael Simons and Crystal Squires of Dolgeville, NY; Abigail Squires and her companion, Mario Juliano of Dolgeville, NY and Victoria Delci and her husband, Andrew; his niece, Emma "Bug" and nephew, Matheo; paternal grandparents, Bob & Mary Simons of Wells, NY; maternal grandparents, Anne McCaleb and Bill Wigdzinski of Bainbridge, NY; aunts and uncles, B.J. Simons of Gloversville, NY, Erik LaShure and his wife, Catherine of Amsterdam, NY, Jason LaShure and his fiancé, Angel Armstrong of Rome, NY; cousins, Preston, Avery, Zeke, and special little cousin, Brisben (Breezy); several great-aunts, great-uncles and extended family; special friends, his long-time best friend " brother ", Lowen Estrella of Dolgeville, NY; his friend and "little bro", Landon Brockway; and close family friend, Emily Eastman, all three whom shared a special friendship with Zachary and will be forever cherished by his family.
Zachary was predeceased by his paternal great-grandparents, Joseph and Elizabeth D'Angelo and Preston and Beatrice Simons; and maternal great-grandmother, Marge Hunsinger.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2022 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Miller-Plonka Funeral Home, 30 Wolf Street, Dolgeville, New York. A Celebration of Zachary's Life will be held immediately following calling hours at 5 p.m. also at the funeral home, with Celebrant Carol Klausner. A reception will follow at the Dolgeville Rod and Gun Club. The funeral services will be livestreamed and can be viewed by clicking the link on our website.
Zachary's untimely passing should not be in vain. If anything should come of this tragedy, it is awareness. It should be a lesson…a lesson to be kind… be kind to your friend, to your classmate, to your student…be kind to all. Be-friend the kid who struggles, the one that sits alone, the one that you feel is "different". Stick up for someone even if it means you will fall too. Parents…talk with your children about being kind as it starts at home. The smallest amount of kindness and caring can mean the difference in the world of a child.
