He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Smith and Mary Fenton Smith; his wife Janet Akerstrom Smith; and his siblings, Shelia Smith, Frances Bridger and Henry Smith.
He is survived by: his children, Carolyn Schimanski (James), Chris Smith (Kerry Dewitt) and Ellen Kelly (Paul); and his grandchildren, Maggie, Katie, Tristan Schimanski, Emma, Elise and Devin Kelly.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Friends of Five Rivers in support of Five Rivers Environmental Education Center, a local preserve with 10 miles of connecting trails on 450 acres of protected green space, where George spent countless hours with his children and grandchildren over the years.
