He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Roland and Catherine Brownell (Griffin); his children, Greg Brownell of Queensbury, N. Y., Linda Brownell Glover (Charles) of Marathon, N. Y. and Sharon Brownell Redfield (Jon) of Fredonia, N. Y.; his grandsons, Sean, Jacob and Kevin Redfield of Fredonia, N. Y.; his stepgranddaughters, Brooke Glover of Marathon, N. Y. and Kaitlyn Glover of Cortland, N. Y.; his stepgreat-grandson Trevor Howe of Cortland, N. Y; his wife Kathryn Emerson Brownell; and his brother John R. Brownell.

“I have just discovered this obituary which deeply saddened me. He became my pen pal after i met him in cortland in 2014. We communicated about my family the gillettes but we also became friends. I hadn't heard from him and was worried this might be the outcome. My condolences go out to his family and friends which of course include those at the historical society.
