Thomas R. Goodwin Obituary
Thomas R. Goodwin, age 70, of Hornby passed away on Thursday, February 4, 2016 at Guthrie Corning Hospital of Corning, NY. Tom was born February 5, 1945 in North Hornell, NY to the late Cleon and Winifred (Studley) Goodwin. He met Mary Strait in 1976 at Millers Pancake House in Corning. Little did they know that this chance meeting would result in a lifetime of unforgettable memories.
They were married on April 25, 1981 and settled down in Hornby, before being blessed with a son. Tom was a proud father who made sure that he was an active part of his son's life, sharing his knowledge while making cherished memories along the way. He wanted to make sure he raised a son who was ready to face the world, with or without him.
He had a passion for the outdoors and shared this with his family and friends. He enjoyed target shooting, tinkering around the house, photography, western movies, and especially camping. He was an accomplished painter who shared his love of animals and nature through his artwork, which are now family treasures. He retired from Dresser-Rand, Painted Post in 2007 after 32 years.
In his retirement, he and Mary enjoyed continuing the family camping tradition, but finally in a camper. He was happiest simply being in the presence of his family, friends, and pets. He is survived by his wife: Mary (Strait) Goodwin; son: Christopher (Amy Giometti) Goodwin of Dansville, NY; sister: Brenda (Joe) Milliken of Sylvania, GA ;brother: Donald (Judy) Goodwin of Colleyville, TX; sister in law: June Goodwin of Plano, TX; brother in law: Stephen (Jane) Strait of Dawson Springs , KY, and two children from a previous marriage.
Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Richard Goodwin. Floral offerings are welcome by the family, or memorial donations can be made in Tom's memory to the Rockwell Museum of Western Art, 111 Cedar St. Corning, NY.
