He was predeceased by: his parents, Justin Purcell and Alice Purcell (MacAvoy); his son Thomas F. Purcell, Jr.; and his siblings, Justin, John Purcell, Mary Wilson (La) and Ellen Carver.
He is survived by: his wife Eileen Nares; and his son Roger Purcell (Margaret) of Albany, NY. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
