She was predeceased by: her parents, William Smith and Marion Smith (Lindow); her stepfather Paul Kittner; her son Paul Merola; and her brother Harry Smith.

She is survived by: her husband Joseph; her children, Melodee Issa (Michel) of Austin, TX, Joe Merola (Mimi Tarantelli) of Elmira, Christopher Merola (Son Chu Choi) of Corning and Marco Merola (Toni Ruocco) of Corning; her grandchildren, Marilyn, Christopher, Isabella, Vivienne, Christian, Elias and Allena; her siblings, Nancy Best, Julia Sprague, Harold Smith, Edward Smith and Vicky Serfoss (Donald); her stepsisters, Joanne Randall, Paula Potter, Rita Jensen, Mary Jones, Judy McChesney and Margaret Gerhart; her niece Sandy; and her friend Lois Lovgren. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
